8 Ultimate Half-Ton Towable RVs You Need to See
Did you know that the best-selling automotive vehicles in the U.S. are pickup trucks? Ford’s F-Series, Chevrolet’s Silverado, and Ram trucks take the top three spots, and trucks alone accounted for more than 12 million new car sales in 2023. In fact, light truck sales make up nearly 80 percent of all total sales in the “light vehicle” category, outperforming cars and SUVS by nearly 4 to 1.
But if you’re a truck owner, you might already know all this. Because light-duty trucks are so popular, we get a lot of questions about which RV models are fit to be towed by these vehicles. Light-duty trucks, also known as half-ton trucks, can pull some significant weight. In the past, half-ton referred to the trucks’ capacity to move a half-ton of weight (its payload), which is 1000 lbs.
These days, modern trucks often have much higher payloads and can include towing capacities of 10,000 lbs. or more. We’ve already put together a guide to help you better understand truck weights and capacities and how to find an RV that suits your half-ton truck. Always make sure to check your own vehicle’s capabilities and never exceed 90 percent of its maximum payload and towing capacity as a general safety rule.
Now, onto the fun stuff. Here are eight of our favorite models within the half-ton, towable RVs category. If you’re shopping for a lighter-weight RV towable this year, take a look!
