RV Recipe: Stella's Firecrackers

RV Recipe: Stella's Firecrackers

One of the greatest things about being a Heartland owner is other Heartland owners! Over the past six years we have met some of the sweetest, friendliest, nicest people. When we're able to get together it's like a family reunion. As with any family reunion there is always lots of delicious food to share.

Several years ago, our friend, Stella C., shared this tasty snack recipe with us and now has us hooked (as well as many other Heartlanders!). It's perfect for snacking on while chatting around a fire!

1 box Nabisco Premium saltines (or for a little twist use Ritz crackers)

2 cups canola oil

1 package dry ranch dressing mix

2 – 3 teaspoons crushed red pepper (adjust to your taste)

Open each sleeve of crackers and place them horizontally into a gallon zippered storage bag forming four layers of crackers. (The whole box will fit in the bag…honest!)

Combine the canola oil, ranch dressing mix, and crushed red pepper and stir until well blended.

Holding the bag upright, pour oil mixture over the crackers, covering as many as possible. Securely close the bag. Turn bag upside down and back several times to distribute the oil mixture throughout the crackers. Lay the bag flat.

Flip the bag over every hour to distribute the oil mixture. After 24 hours remove crackers from bag and place in a covered container.

*Recently Stella started making these with Ritz crackers and doesn't even stack them in the storage bag. She just tosses them in the bag, adds the seasonings and shakes and they're just as tasty….possibly even tastier than the original version!
