RV There Yet? Chronicles of a Retirement Adventure

Heartland Recreational Vehicles is the fastest growing RV company in the world and we are making news in the RV industry every day.
My husband, Michael, and I have been living fulltime in our 2011 Landmark Key Largo since April of 2011 and LOVE every minute of it.

When Michael retired from the US Army in October of 2012 (after 29 years of service) we hit the road and haven’t looked back.

We usually work in the south Texas oilfields in the winter and spend time with our two sons and their families in the summer. We travel and sight-see as much and often as possible.

RV Tip: Stop and Smell the Roses

RV Tip: Stop and Smell the Roses
Before Michael retired from the Army our vacations were always so busy and hurried that by the time we got back home, and it was time to go back to work, we felt like we needed a vacation from our vacation! With that in mind, when we hit the road with our 2011 Heartland Landmark Key Largo, we vowed to take our time when we traveled and enjoy the sce...

RV Recipe: Crockpot Creamy Chicken and Wild Rice Soup

RV Recipe: Crockpot Creamy Chicken and Wild Rice Soup
Fall is in the air and with Fall comes the need to switch up our menu a bit. Comforting soups that warm the tummy are enjoyed while we snuggle in our sweatshirts watching the colorful leaves flutter to the ground. This is the perfect fall meal to throw in the crockpot and let simmer away while you do your fall tasks. Whether it be weatherizing your...

First Monday Trade Days in Canton, TX

First Monday Trade Days in Canton, TX
First Monday Trade Days in Canton, Texas, began in the 1850's. The first Monday of each month was when the circuit court judge stopped in Canton and held court. The people in the area came to town to do their business, pick up provisions and sit in on a few court hearings (possibly even a hanging or two).It only made sense that they bring to town a...

RV Calling Cards

RV Calling Cards
When we went to our first Heartland RV rally in October 2011 we met so many fun and interesting people and naturally we wanted to keep in touch with them. Many of our new acquaintances were seasoned RVers who handed us their 'card'.They didn't hand us their 'business card'. They handed us their 'calling card'. Maybe you're wondering what a 'calling...

2PSNAPOD Replace Their Landmark's Microwave

2PSNAPOD Replace Their Landmark's Microwave
Our 2011 Landmark Key Largo came with a Frigidaire microwave/convection oven installed. It's worked great for the six years we've been living in our fifth wheel.Unfortunately, a year ago the door swung open while traveling and the front of the door was cracked and being held together with tape. Also, the front top cover had somehow been broken...

Campground Review: Capital City RV Park

Campground Review: Capital City RV Park
If you ever find yourself in central Alabama and need a place to stay…this is the place. There are a couple of other campgrounds in the area but, in our opinion, this is the nicest and safest.Located on the northeast side of Montgomery, Capital City RV Park is very quiet and well maintained. The owners have rules and enforce them but that's part of...
