Did you know, that every moment of your life, you breathe in toxins. Adding to that, the products you use, cosmetics, OTC's, cleaning agents in our homes (and RV's), processed food products, etc. are laden with chemicals and toxins...what you call 'free radicals'.
Free radicals are atoms or groups of atoms with an unpaired number of electrons and can be formed when oxygen interacts with certain molecules. Once formed, these highly reactive radicals can start a chain reaction to prevent free radical damage the body has a defense system of antioxidants. Free radicals cause a whole slew of diseases, symptoms and ailments in the human body (and animals), robbing us of our energy and interrupt our metabolisms.
Free radicals are found in fried foods, alcohol, tobacco smoke, pesticides, air pollutants, water contaminants, campfires, wildfires, cosmetics, health and beauty aids, sunscreens and even the sun! Free radicals can cause damage to parts of cells such as proteins, DNA and cell membranes by stealing their electrons through a process called oxidation.
WHEW!!! Did you get all that? Without going all scientific on you, here it is in layman's terms...
Unnatural elements all around us cause your health to age quickly, affect your metabolism and attack your body's integral systems. Your body can't fight the bad stuff and cancer cells invade and multiply. The best way to combat them is to rid them all together however, we know, this could be difficult in the world we live in today. This is why we seek more healthy diets, exercise, plant-based products in the home, and using pure essential oils. This is the reason for all the hoopla we hear about regarding 'antioxidants'.
Okay, enough of the science lesson. What does this have to do with Essential Oils? First things first...
What are ESSENTIAL OILS?
1. A natural oil typically obtained by distillation and having the characteristic fragrance of the plant or other source from which it is extracted.
2. Essential Oils have enhanced and improved lives for thousands of years, even before biblical days, offering a variety of healthy dietary benefits and cosmetic improvements to spiritual and religious uses. They are nature's pure essence; extracted through scrupulous steam distillation, resin tapping and cold pressing. The purest essential oils are more powerful than the botanicals from which they originate because they're concentrated. Essential Oils combat free radicals, as described above, because they are natural antioxidants and prevent cell mutations. Essential oils come from plants; barks, roots, leaves, stems and flowers. "True and pure" essential oils have no additives. We've learned how to incorporate them into our health, our home, and later, our RV. We have researched protocols that helps us sleep better and more restful, first aid, repellents, cleaning and wellness through aromatherapy, topical use, inhalation, and some internal. Importantly, we maintain communication with our physicians of how we use them for our health.
Why we got interested in Young Living Essential Oils...
Seven years ago, we adopted our Calico Maine Coon, Kandi, as a kitten. Our little fuzzy clown was loving, playful and sweet, only nine months later, we noticed peculiar behavior she started exhibiting...rolling skin, frantic licking or biting at her back, hair pulling, hallucinations, erratic tail-swishing and darting, serious anxiety and agitation and sometimes minor epileptic events.
We sought advice from her veterinarian; soon after the exam, she was diagnosed with Feline Hyperesthesia; a neurological seizure disorder also known as 'twitch-skin syndrome' and 'psychomotor epilepsy' that affects a rare percentage of domestic cats and the cause is unknown. They are brought on by stress, barometric pressure and weather changes, loud noises, confusion and yes, 'free radicals'.
Some veterinarians are not familiar with this disease and if they are, they only know to prescribe pharmaceuticals which certainly wasn't the option we were hoping for. Because Kandi's sweet and loving disposition, we chose to seek out alternatives that were not chemically invasive that wouldn't alter her personality or perhaps, make matters worse.
It was then, a dear friend told me about a Young Living Essential Oil blend called Peace and Calming and sent me a sample. A few days later, we received the sample and were eager to see if this would work. When we noticed she was having a hard time, I sat on the floor and simply rubbed it in my hands letting her come to me. She at first, cautiously approached and sniffed. Almost immediately, Kandi's seizure-like episode subsided and she laid on the floor next to me calmly. That right there was testimony enough for me to learn more...
What do Essential Oils have to do with RVing?
Simple really...it's no different than using them in our stick-and-brick house. We feel they are naturally healthier than OTC's and chemical-laden pharmaceuticals. They are totally earth friendly. We use our oils for diffusing aromatically, topical use, reflexology and some, internally. Each Essential Oil and Blend has it's own guideline and protocol for use.
Just a few of our favorite oils we have incorporated into our everyday lives are Frankincense, Lemongrass, Lavender, Peppermint, Lemon, and Lime. Our favorite blends are Peace and Calming (for anxiety and sleep), Panaway (for topical pain), RC (for respiratory and colds), Thieves (antibacterial and cleansing), Purification (cleansing) and Christmas Spirit (spiritual). We diffuse and topically apply Stress Away on travel days while we are driving!
We use the 'Thieves' household products; household cleaner, hand soap, dish soap, antibacterial sprays, toothpaste, mouthwash, and Thieves Essential Oil Blend. We also use Young Living's Nutritional Support and Supplements (all containing Young Living Essential Oils!).So as you see, we've taken a healthier approach to our lifestyle that follows us everywhere we go, whether in our RV, on our hikes or adventure motorcycles.
DISCLAIMER: The above is OUR TESTIMONY. What may work for us and our situation may not work for you, your family, or your pets' situations. We encourage thorough research and always seek your Physician and/or Veterinarian prior to use.
Worth noting: if and when using 'any' essential oils near or on pets, never force them or put them on their face area. Always allow them to come to you. As well, when diffusing, make certain they have an exit option into another room if they show discord.
